As I was reading this I kept thinking of similar point in our past just over a 100 years ago. It was a time when the we had this same unmitigated optimism in our technological future. We were wowed and cowed by the wonders of The World's fair & had such faith that every innovation would improve our lives. We swallowed bottles of radium and let old Doc Brinkley stitch up goat testicles in our insides. It took public crusaders and government officials to cure us of being taken in by charlatans wanting nothing more than to fill their pockets and patting us on the shoulder and telling us it would change our lives.
